I. GENESIS:-
University Grants Commission has been playing an important role in promoting gender equity in higher education. In order to institutionalize these efforts and promote research and extension on women’s issues. Centre for Women’s Studies was started in the Universities across the country existence in Mysore University during 1989. The Centre for Women’s Studies was housed in Institute of Development Studies autonomous centre in 1994 and was shifted to Humanities Block. At present, the Centre is running with UGC Fund.

III.AIM AND OBJECTIVES :
AIM: Bring about gender justice, gender equality & awareness among students & community
OBJECTIVES: Promoting gender equity through Teaching, Research, Training and Advocacy. The following are the specific objectives
- To teach Women’s Studies as a discipline
- To develop resource centre for academicians, activists and public
- To conduct ongoing research on women issues
- To sensitize people to acknowledge and appreciate women’s role in society
- To raise public awareness about gender discrimination and unequal status of women through programmes
- To act as a consultative agency on women’s rights, gender sensitization for Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations
- Organisation of Seminars, Conferences, Workshops, Special Lectures, Discussions, Women Court related to Women’s issues on the grounds of interdisciplinary knowledge.
- Publications of research and critical texts with feminist analysis
