PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT Department of Studies in History, Mansagangotri Mysore-6 1894: History began to be taught in the Maharaja's College 1894: History Society, the oldest forum of Princely Mysore was established academic and it is being continued. 1916: University of Mysore was established with the professor of History Thomas Denham as its first Registrar.

New Progaramme : Ph.d Course work was conducted to 82 research students. Two Papers: Advanced Research Methodology and Theory in History Review of literature Seminars were conducted. Feedback : The Student feedback Mechanism offers further growth opportunities to the faculty. Planning of course structure in feedback on relevance of the structure and suggestions for desired modifications afterwards incorporate the suggestion session plans are prepared to ensure that the students are provided with world class education, strict attendance are laid down. Teaching Methods Adopted by the Faculty: Power Point Presentation Slide Presentation Maps Audio Visual aids in Teaching Student Monitored: The Students is taught in most effective manner. Lectures are conducted through PowerPoint Presentation. To assess the learning outcome of the students class tests, Assignments and Seminars are conducted on a regular basis along with the final examinations on each semester. Participation of students and faculty in Extension activities: Heritage explorations by identifying the Monuments, Heritage structures, Irrigational Tanks in Karnataka. Conducting extension activities to educate the masses about the importance of preserving the Historical Monuments and prevent their decay or destruction. Beyond the syllabus activities: The department conducts North India, South India and regional tours to students to enrich their Knowledge. Consultancy: Guidance to the Research Scholars coming from rural and urban areas for research work, competitive exams and other career guidance's are given. U.G. Teachers take advice and assistance to conduct and organise seminars, workshops and special lectures. Physically challenge students: They are taken more care with all support to improve their career, and extra classes taken by the faculty Contributions of the Department: Department of Studies in History publishes two Journals one in Kannada Ithihasa (Student Journal) and one English, Journal of Historical Studies. Faculty members are active in delivering special lectures in various colleges, resource persons to Academic Staff College, Karnataka State Open University, Karnataka Administrative Service and Indian Administrative Service Centers. Faculty members have published 15 research books in English and Kannada which helps the students to update their knowledge. Faculty members of the department continuously attend and present research papers in National and International conferences, Seminars, Workshops and brings laurels to the institution.
Future plans of the Department: The department is research oriented for this purpose seminars are essential to improve the personality of the students and research scholars. It is necessary to make progress on historical studies and research. Therefore it is necessary to have a big seminar hall with LCD facilities, Seminar Hall which accommodates 250 students, faculty members and research scholars. A modern study requires the application of computers and internet. To provide these facilities, a computer lab with a minimum of 15 computers along with accessories, a computer lab will be established for the students, research scholars and faculty. There are more than 90 research scholars which includes UGC, ICHR, RGNG, FIP, SC/ST cell and foreign research scholars, it is necessary to provide them with cubical facilities. So we intend to give them this facility. The existing number of students 150+90 research scholars plus 20 M. Phil students, so it is necessary to have classrooms and staff rooms. Department of History came into existence in the year 1894, by 2014 History department is completing 125 years. Department has to celebrate for the whole year of 2014, by conducting Seminars/Conferences/workshops/symposium and exhibition. We are planning to conduct thematical Seminars twice a year in the department and also to publish the research papers presented in the seminars. We are planning to build Art Museum and establish centre for collecting and preserving Archival Materials. For the coming years we want to organize National and International Conference in the department. Seminars on Socio-Economic History of India, Urbanization of South India, State and Society in Medieval South India, Karnataka History Congress Annual Session, South Indian History Congress, Annual session and seminars on Indo-West Asian Relation. Looking forward to attend State, National, International Conference/Seminars by our faculty members and educational tours to foreign countries. The Department aims to future improve and strengthen the academic Standards by taking necessary measures in research i.e. UGC/ICHR/Major research project and developmental activities from time to time.
SWOC: 1. All the faculty of our department have more than two decades of excellent teaching experience and are involved in the research activities. 2. Departmental Library has more then 7, 000 books including rare books and back Volume Journal. 3. Department of Studies in History publishes two Journals one in Kannada Itihasa (Student Journal) and one in English, Journals of Historical Studies. 4. Every year around 15 research students successfully completes their Ph.D research work, under the able guidance of qualified faculty members of the department. At present 90 research scholars are doing research in the department. 5. Faculty members are invited to deliver special lectures, and also to present research papers in State, National and International level.
