Library services and Facilities

Borrowing Facility:

This service is being provided for the benefit of user community. The members of the library can borrow books for a period of 15 days. Two borrowers tickets will be issued to students and can borrow two books at a time. Ten tickets will be issued to the Faculty and Research Scholars to borrow the books from the library and return the same after period of 15 days. The users are requested to return the borrowed books to the library on or before the due date to avoid the penalty of Over Due Charges. Students are requested to obtain the NO DUE CERTIFICATE from the library at the end of the Academic Year.


Reference Service:

The Library is extending reference and referral services to the users of the library. Most of the reference oriented Text books and General books have been kept in reference and active stack area for reference only by the users of the library. Users are going to be informed about the availability of their required books in other libraries.

Orientation Programme: 

The Library is being organized the Library Orientation Programme in order to create an awareness among the fresh students of the various post-graduate departments about the proper utilization of the library and its resources and services; to give first hand information about the library and to provide them a closer acquaintance and more familiarity about various aspects of the library system. This programme is an educative and informative and also bridges the gap between the library staff and user clients. This Programme briefs about the physical arrangement and organization of the collection of the University Library, its functions and services both traditional and Information Technology related services like CD-ROM, FAX INTERNET & E-Journals Consortium of UGC INFONET.  Briefing will be followed by demonstration of Information Technology   related services and Tour of the Library (covering all  the sections of the library), Rules Regulation and Do’s and Do not’s will be briefed to the students. This programme enhances the usage of the library to the optimum level.

Books Display Programme:

The Library is being practiced a unique system of making arrangements of BOOKS DISPLAY PROGRAMME IN THE LIBRARY BASED ON IMPORTANT PERSONALITIES, EVENTS, DATES AND ON OTHER RARE OCCASIONS. The Library books on such aspects will be displayed in the library to create an awareness among the users about the availability of the various resources.

Inter-Library Loan:

The books of our library will be sent to various other libraries on Inter Library Loan as per the request from other institutions. The library also used to get some books on Inter Library Loan basis from other libraries as requested by our users.

Text Book Loan Facility:

The library has maintained this section for the benefit of students belongs to SC / ST and Other Economically Weaker sections. 5 text books will be issued to each student for a period of one academic year in the cognitive subjects. At the end the students has to return the borrowed books and to obtain NO DUE CERTIFICATE from the Library.

CD-ROM Service:

Users of the Library especially the Research Scholars can avail this facility. Research Scholars can browse CDs related to their subjects which gives the bibliographical information along with abstracts of journal articles, seminar papers, conference proceedings, book reviews, etc. This facility helps them to collect the entire information about the quantum of literature available related to their topic within short span of time.

OPAC Facility:

To provide first hand information about the availability and location of the books, journals and other documents of the library, Online Public Access Catalogue facility is being proposed to extend for the benefit of the user community.

Binding Facility:

Most of the important reference oriented books and journals will be bounded suitably to enhance the life span and utility of such documents by the user group.

Tour of the Library and user awareness programme:

The Library will initiate necessary steps to provide library awareness programme to the visitors, who visit the library by taking them to different divisions of the library and explain the salient features of the library services and facilities. Various persons from Educational Institutions and R&D Organizations of local, regional, national and international levels are the regular visitors of the library.

UGC INFONET:

The Library is providing the accessibility facility of UGC INFONET E-DIGITAL CONSORTIUM ELECTRONIC JOURNALS AND DATA-BASES. About 22 leading publishers are providing more than 9,300 + journal articles with full texts and abstracts. Teaching Faculty, Research Scholars and Students can avail this facility for their academic and research purposes.

Book Exhibition:

The newly acquired books to the library will be displayed in the library for the benefit of the users, so that, every users of the library will came to know the different types of documents that the library has procured every year.

Extension Services:

The unique picture of the library is to provide the extension services. The staff of the library will provide suitable help and assistance for the various range of queries made by the users rekated to their area of study.

Visitors Card:

The library will issue Visitors Card to enable the visitors to visit the library in order to make use of the library resources. Whoever wants to visit the library apart from the regular members are requested to submit their request seeking permission from the Librarian to make use of the library resources for a specific period.

Bibliographic Services:

The Library is providing this facility for the benefit of the users by informing about the availability of abstracting and indexing journals and reference oriented documents.

Photostat Copy Facility :

The library members can avail the Xerox facility within the library building. The responsibility of providing Xerox facility has been entrusted to a private agency.

Research Cubicles:

The library has 24 Cubicles / Study rooms which are meant for the benefit of Research Scholars. The each cubicles will be allotted to two Research Scholars those who have completed two years of term. Research Scholars are requested to submit their application for cubicles directly to the concerned Assistant Librarian through the Head of the Department.

Generator: To provide un-interrupted power supply to the users the Library has acquired 80Kv Generator set. The power connectivity facility has been provided to all the sections of the library and also to the Department of Library Information Science as well as the Humanities Auditorium.

Financial Resources: The Library collects the following fee from its user community and remitted to University General Revenue Account Grant through State Bank of Mysore, University Branch.

a.Library Membership fee from the users,
b.Over due charges from the students for the delayed return of books,
c.Loss of books, Borrowers Tickets, Membership ID Cards and Tokens etc.
