School of Foreign Languages
Brief History of the Department:
The School of Foreign Languages was established in 1971.
It was one of the earliest foreign language teaching centres in India offering courses in French, German and Russian.
Till the 80’s the School had native speakers on cultural exchange or on ad hoc appointment teaching these three languages.
Until recently the Head of the Department of English used to be the Honorary Director of the School of Foreign Languages. Professors C. D. Narasimhaiah, Anniah Gowda and U. R. Ananthamurthy among others occupied this post.
A post of Coordinator was created in 2009 to head the School from amongst its faculty.
Students of the School of Foreign Languages have been successfully employed in different areas like tourist guides, translators, teachers to name a few of the professions.
School of Foreign Languages offers part time courses, short time courses, open elective courses to Postgraduate students under CBCS and research leading to Ph.D.
