ORIGIN AND HISTORICAL DETAILS

        It was dream of poet Laureate Sri KV Puttappa to establish an academic institution focusing on performing arts. Enthusiastic support of the then education Minister Sri K.V.Shankaregowda and Dr. Srimali, the then Vice Chancellor, made this dream into a reality and thus University College  of Fine Arts was established.  Dr. D.Javaregowda, former Vice Chancellor of University of Mysore, Mysore deserves to be considered the Master- builder of this unique institution.

  • Renamed - July 1971 - University College of Fine Arts

Courses Offered:

1)  B.P.A (Bachelor of Performing Arts) - A three year degree course (Semester)

Students focus on three electives from among Music (Vocal/Veena/Violin/Flute/ Mridangam), Dance (Bharatanatya), Dramatics, Gamaka, South Indian Studies, Aesthetics, Kannada, English, Hindi and Sanskrit.

2)   Diploma  --           A Part Time Courses - Two years duration

Subjects offered:  Vocal, Veena, Flute, Dance and Dramatics

3)  M. Music - A two years (CBCS SCHEME) Post Graduate Course - Vocal- Veena

4)  M.Dance - A two years (CBCS SCHEME) Post Graduate Course

5) Ph.D in  Music and Dance

 

INFRASTRUCTURE:

  • Library- A well catalogued Library with valuable collection of about 15,000 Books & Journals. This is among the most well stacked Libraries in the State pertaining to performing arts.
  • The Library comprises an Audio Visual section about 150 Audio Vedio dics .
  • Music Departments comprises Tamburas, Flutes, Violins & Veenas .
  • Internet facility for the Students & Staff & for Administrative purposes.
  • Class rooms - 12
  • A small Theatre with 300 seats.
  • A well equipped discussion hall with multimedia facility.

6)Smt. Padmavathi Narasimhan:

Daughter of late Sri M.N.A Iyengar, a well known Gamki of the state and a Freedom Fighter, Padmavathi is a post graduate in English and also a post graduate and gold medalist in Music from the University of Mysore.

She is training in music from Sri Venkateshaiah of Holenarasipur, a disciple of Sri Puttaswamaiah,

She is an Akashavani artist at Mysore and has performed for various sabhas and festivals at various  places in the state including  Bangalore, Mysore. She has also performed for the Dasara festival at Durbar Hall, Mysore palace. She is also a well-known music critic.

Publications:  "Parakeeya"- Albert Camus' 'The Outsider'  translated into Kannada 2) Article Music in Major  issue of the international magazine- language in India .com. Dravidian Languages published in the May-2012.

7)Dr.K.T.Udayakiran M.Music, Ph.D
