|  Brief about Centre Babu Jagjivanram was one of the most illustrious leaders of our country. His name has been one of those embossed in golden letters on the political and social scenario of India for the remarkable role he played on various occasions. Babu Jagjivanram has immensely contributed to the progress and development of our nation. In this connection, Babu Jagjivanram Study Chair was inaugurated on August 18th 2003 in the University of Mysore. And this chair was worked under Department of Studies in History at Manasagangotri, Mysore. Later on it was shifted to Department of Studies in Political Science, Manasagangotri, Mysore. During this time Babu Jagjivanram Study Chair was having its own independent building at Manasagangotri campus, Mysore and it is one and only in the Nation also. To construct the building with financial assistance from Sri. C.H.Vijayashankar, Honorable Member of Parliament, Mysore Constituency, Mysore. Babuji is even today an exemplar of patriotic virtue. With a view to carry out an in depth study of his contributions and to disseminate the basic tenets and values propounded by him, the University of Mysore, with the munificent financial assistance by the State Government, established Babu Jagjivanram Studies, Research and Extension Centre. The University of Mysore is one of the oldest universities in the country which has initiated new experiments and innovative programmes in the field of higher education setting its leadership edge in reaching the fruits of higher education to larger masses. By establishing Babu Jagjivanram studies, Research and Extension Centre, University of Mysore has opened the doors to study the different aspects of Babuji’s life, his political and social philosophy. At Present, the Chair has become a part of the Dr. Babu Jagjivanram Studies, Research and Extension Centre which came into force from June, 2010. The UGC has generously granted a financial assistance under Institution of Excellence Scheme Project to construct the Babu Jagjivanram Studies, Research and Extension Centre. The Centre is engaged in pursuing its studies and research pertaining to Babu Jagjivanram, his life and works, his illustrious political career, speeches and contribution to the development of the nation. The Centre, endowed with a practical outlook, is also endeavouring more to carry the ideals of Babuji to remote corners of city and rural belts. It is also joining hands with several Governmental and other agencies in reaching out valuable information of the programmes and facilities offered by the Government towards the cause of rural development, upliftment of the rural masses, women empowerment and betterment of the downtrodden. Honorable speaker of the Lok Sabha Dr. Meira Kumar laid the foundation stone for the Centre’s new building on May 18, 2010 and now it is completed and the building was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister for Social Welfare Sri. Narayana swamy, Government of Karnataka and at thesame time Museum was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Medical Education and District In-charge Minister Sri. S.A.Ramadas, Government of Karnataka. The new building is accommodating a Museum, Seminar hall, Class Rooms and Library. 
 Objectives of the Centre 1. To study Babu Jagjivanram’s political and social philosophy, ideals and their relevance to contemporary society. 2. To study the impact of Mahatma Gandhi, Ambedkar, Subash Chandra Bose and other social-political and economic factors on Jagjivanram’s thinking and ideologies. 3. To compare and contrast Jagjivanram’s thoughts and ideologies with other socio-political thinkers in the context of reconstruction of Indian society. 4. To establish Babu Jagjivanram’s perception of socio-economic change. 5. To establish Babu Jagjivanram exhibition/museum. 6. To propagate the philosophy and ideologies of Babuji’s thoughts and their relevance to modern society by way of taking his message to rural areas through extension programmes. 7. To offer courses at different levels on various areas and the ideals of Babu Jagjivanram. 8. To undertake research on and about Babu Jagjivanram’s ideals and related areas.
