The MHRD as listed Chamarajanagara District is one of the backward district in terms of higher education. This is the reason why, University of Mysore has established, PG centre in  Chamarajanagara to catering needs of the higher education to the downtrodden  students of the backward district” 

The Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Post Graduate Centre, Chamarajanagar is one of the PG Centre of  University of Mysore,  is 10 years old, within this short span of time it has shown considerable development,  at the very outset the Centre express its indebtedness to those who have supported materially and morally for its overall growth till now.  

The Centre started in the academic year 2010-11 by Prof.Talwar, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of the University at State Government Sericulture Building, Chamarajanagar offered with 3 courses: M.Com, MBA and MSW with total of 90 students. Initially, it had  name “Satellite Post Graduate Centre” and then it was renamed as “Dr.B.R.Ambedkar Post Graduate Centre” in the year 2015  having first syndicate meeting by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof.Rangappa, at Govt. Sericulture Building.

Each of the departments mentioned has its full quota of students, including those from  ‘B’ Scheme.  The Centre is proud to note that, many of the students who have sought admission chose this Institution as their first preference, despite the PG Courses being available in various institutes in Mysore and elsewhere.

It is also encouraging to note that the results of students from this Centre compare with other students of Manasagangothri (Mysore), Hemaganothri (Hassan), and Sir M.V PG Centre (Mandya).  Every year some of the students have gained Gold Medal and Cash Prizes. Many of the students after passed out here have successfully cleared SLET/NET/KEA/BANKING exams.  Majority of the Students are excelled and occupied the responsible position in Government and Non-Government Sector. 

Initially, the Centre has started for the academic year 2010-11offered with 3 courses viz. M.Com, MBA and MSW. The Centre has also offered number of new courses for the up-gradation of higher education in the backward district as shown in the table.

Today, it has grown with 10 Courses and 450 students, includes 55 Teaching faculties, 2 visiting professors and 31 non-teaching staffs are working in this Centre. The interesting factor is that we have done all these with Visiting Professors, guest faculties and non teaching staffs on temporary basis and Director, is the only person with permanent position.

The State Government was sanctioned 54.3 acres of land. The proposal of 40 crores project for the construction of new building was submitted to The State Government.  The sanctioned amount of  9 crore rupees by the State Government, 3 crores from the UGC, 7 crores from the University of Mysore, Mysore respectively. Using the above sanctioned amount, Administrative Block and Hostel buildings were constructed within 2 years. We have shifted to our own new campus building for the academic year 2017-18.

Recently, another project/proposal has submitted to State Govt. to construct Science Block for Rs.7.5 Crores. The Karnataka State Government was sanctioned 5 crores for the construction of Science Block, work yet to be started. We have requested to Social Welfare Department for the sanction of one SC/ST and one OBC Hostel for those who have need the hostel facilities. The Hon’ble Vice Chancellor has supported the Centre for all the academic development and as well as Campus Development by taking civil work like campus main gate, 100 feet road, Dambar with footpath and drainage for one kms long from Highway to Campus. However, the concrete road within the campus extended towards the hostel and Chemistry Lab .
